Music is sound displayed through the permanence of soul. As often as the sound of a generation will alter, there will be decades of musical history which have shaped the music we hear today. I use the term 'Japanese' to define a style measured through rhythm and melody. Some may say everything can be defined as electro-pop. I define the everything and the ether surrounding it as jazz-funk. With the classicism of flamenco and street sense of hiphop.

Worker's Pride

Every so often, we find ourselves in a predicament whereby we are asked to give a critical opinion of a person providing a service which we have been using. Some may give a big tick and trust they will keep their job, others will determine them unworthy of their position and hope to see them in the queue at the dole office.

Most commonly, cause for complaint will come from a sense of distance to the worker, allowing for lack of real contact and means of communication between the client and service provider. The idea of keeping professional boundaries is one that will be considered by all workers, as to determine how far is too far, and how close is too close for comfort.

In every industry, professional boundaries are practised - although it may be less obvious amongst those who don't consider their job in a professional manner, it still happens.

It will always be part of what keeps us confident, the idea that the work we do is either that which only few can achieve, or that few can perform at the exceptional level we set ourselves. All facets of hospitality, trade and communications rely on a good rapport with their (often repeat) customers. Even if they didn't, and still maintained a flow of income, that sense of pride in what one does will be at a level with which others will exercise caution around.

Professional success is not measured by money. It is measured that balance between keeping the people happy and getting the job done and dusted without any loss other than time.

Time will see us all to the grave, just how fast its three hands move is up to personal perception.

Pocket Ashtrays

So I says to my local shopkeeper, "The usual."

Says the shopkeeper, in a fit of defiance, "But cigarettes are bad for you."

Says I, "They're good for your health! Proven to prevent cancer, asthma and hayfever in scientifically determined laboratory methods."

"Now you are acting older than you really are. Okay have your cigarettes."

It is a big pitfall for smokers, whereby they need a place to put the used filter without copping a littering fine by a jocular-yet-deadly-serious official.

One may have to forgo convenience for ashy fingers through the purchase of a portable ashtray, and maybe sometime in the future they will be spruiked as well as the cigarettes that preceeded their existence.

Then again, maybe they have been already...

Still, one must respect the act of rebellion by those who drop it on the spot and do the tap'n'swivel with a sense of class generally upheld by young professionals.

We are all forced to follow the doctor's orders eventually, but like those rubbish bins of the 1990's said, DO THE RIGHT THING.

Its just that sometimes, doing the right thing means keeping left. Would you like some distraction with your tea break? Send in the dragon tamer~~

Local Politics of an International City

Ahem.

Ladies and Gentlemen. Sydney's tap water, aka "good enough to bottle," now comes with froth! So may we update its reputation to something along the lines of "good enough for home brewing beer."

In other news, the anti-love movement has promised to do more of the same, and maybe even more of the unpopular stuff, if voted into governance. Meanwhile the love movement, staying true to form, is keeping its promises and planning for more of that popular home-baked yumyum goodness.

Speaking of which, I am noticing the sport of home cooking TV becoming more eye catching than Ana Ivanovic's world of tennis these days, it would be an idea for our fearless leader to gain votes on similar grounds methinks.

On a more relevant note, the we-are-not-a-one-night-stand party is poised for action. Word on the street is they are preparing to change their name to the massive love-in party, albeit from dubious sources.

As long as we can keep our jobs and enjoy the view, the people are cool with the pollies.

200 year labour of love

Layerism

I had once thought that layers were people who got laid often.

It has since come to my attention that it is a fashion phenomenon whereby people dress accordingly to the temperature, simply adding layers of clothing to feel warm in the colder months

Deep end of the Weekend

Sydney Festival first night is just one of those things that need to be experienced at least once in a lifetime. A free event running all afternoon until 11pm, Hyde Park and surrounds are transformed into a cultural melting pot that makes our city look like something alot more enjoyable than your average coffee in the park.

There was a mosh pit at the College St stage where I saw A-Trak perform. This dude won the DMC World Championships when he was 16, and carved out something promising for Canadian hiphop on an international level when he used the fame to release hiphop albums that would pave a future for generations to come

Ana Mazzotti

What a wonderful world. Fish records released their 'Global' store in Sydney around August of this year, cnr King and Clarence Sts. The presence of a looming Christmas brought about a decision to walk down the front stairs into a place far from JB Hifi - spiritually and mentally.

Its a 34 degree C day and there is still a bit of ahhh in the air from the storm the day before, its time to get the type of music that evokes the feeling of the tropics. As most of you may know, I'm not so much into Queensland as I am into Gato Belle Brasil. Plus I would be musically stranded if the 1970's style of jazzfunk had never been invented

Its that time of year again

People are coming out of hibernation. They're losing their layer of fat gained over winter which was used to keep themselves warm through the burning of calories just from being in the cold weather. They're getting slimmer, and when they see that in the mirror they decide they need to go somewhere to show it off.

Maybe do some moonlighting as a stripper, or gigilo/prostitute? Maybe begin frequenting the nearest friendly nudist beach? Ahhh that's showing too much confidence in our bodies. Plus stretch marks aren't really in right now

Parramatta's Little Italian Cafe

Out West, beyond Sydney's CBD, Little Italies, Olympic Stadiums and harbour, there is an interesting and mixed culture forever keeping pace with the rest of Sydney, known as Parramatta.

The Skateboard Stack

I stacked it in my front yard today.
Walking home mid afternoon, I came across a piece of wood which made my imagination think all types of things - surfing, karate chopping it in half - but most importantly I wanted to skate on it.

Why I wanna be in NYC

Aside from the melting pot of writers, musos and skatie kids, here's two simple reasons:

1. I want Amel Larrieux from the borough of Brooklyn to be the first female president

My Idea of Paradise

I woke up late in the morning today, feeling shockingly stung-up by the swilling and swigging of the night before. In a haze of confusion I thought to myself 'Am I working today?' and realised I wouldn't be able to even if I was.

So out of the bedroom and into the beautiful day that lay in front of me. Its late winter in Sydney, but today is just one of those days where the beach is reminiscent of something close to paradise. Close
