Life of the Party
March 5th 2007 05:14
We enter the house at 10:30pm and take a seat with the circle of people in the backyard. The alcohol is flowing freely, but the conversation isn't. Everyone is shocked - this place used to have the rockingest parties ever! Maybe we're getting too old.
Just as we begin to accept that the party population is ageing, the crowds come pouring in. 5 minutes after we came in. I feel like suggesting they came here just to see me, but that might be a tad pretensious. So we just sit back and let the wine flow. Pass the vibe on, etc.
At this stage I'd like to say that after we left the rest of the crowd followed suit, as if to say I'm just too damn hot for the bus I rocked up in. But that is never the case. I will only leave when the signs are obvious, ie everyone else has left.
So the house is emptied, like a bucket of alcohol, with me and two friends hanging on like the last few drips that need to be washed off to keep the bucket clean.
3 and a half out of five. Really can't complain.
Flash to last Sunday. I arrive on time at The Dolphin expecting to meet some fresh faces. I enter and notice the different crowds around, realising I wouldn't have the faintest on how to recognise a bunch of bloggers I've never met before. Fellow orblers may laugh and say 'sucker' when I say I started asking around, trying to determine where they all are.
So I sit upstairs and start getting phone calls. I tell them where I am, and if they don't come I will be quite annoyed and will return home in no mood for talking. Noticing there was no need for a threat, the friends arrive with no questions or qualms.
In the meanwhile, I spot Jon. The Master Administrator has turned up, a bit worried that he didn't promote the party enough. How many invites does it take for a blogger to come to his/her own party?
3 or 4, apparently.
So me, three friends and Jon all have a chatty couple of drinks and decide to go to the beach. Let me tell you, the water was beautiful. I hope you all had an enjoyable Sunday, just as we did.
3 out of 5. Nothing new.
