Parramatta's Little Italian Cafe
December 26th 2007 08:36
Out West, beyond Sydney's CBD, Little Italies, Olympic Stadiums and harbour, there is an interesting and mixed culture forever keeping pace with the rest of Sydney, known as Parramatta.
Its got an accessible trainline, plenty of special restaurants, and a pedestrian mall which houses a church made in the 1820's. In this particular mall, I have come across a little gem of a place. The people running it were Italian, the coffee was good and its design reminiscent of those littered around Sydney's Centre.
Speaking of which, Centrepoint Tower can not really be seen as the centre of Sydney if you look at demographics. Well, at least when it comes to population. You'll have to see for yourself about the socio-economic demographic. Yes, Parramatta is the centre of Sydney, with an equal amount of Sydneysiders to the west, and east, thereof.
So back to Buon Gusto. I went to this place twice in one morning, the first time for breakfast - which was just as appealing as what you'd get in Double Bay at a fraction of the price(duh), and the second time my curiousity was bursting at the seems to see what their coffee was like.
And I was satisfied, especially when the bums around the mall didn't seem to be interested in my cigarette pack or wallet. It is a whole new experience from the Eastern Suburbs, and those of us who don't need to be constantly reminded that 'our land is girt by sea' should get out here more often.
Places like this make our city seem a little more, down to earth. I hope you agree.

I've always refused to live anywhere north of the harbour bridge - their attitude annoyes me. I live in the inner west - which is another down to earth place. Parra is also on top and the developments around there in the recent years definitely makes it 'centre' of Sydney!
Thanks for sharing!

Do you think they'd mind a traveller using a video camera over there? I feel it would capture the mood a bit better. (also use it for music video fodder)
